You won’t find a treatment program that approaches canine companion therapy like Capstone. It’s part of why we’re one of the best treatment programs for adolescents & young adults.
Each client receives an AKC registered labrador retriever upon admission and graduates our program with a recovery companion for years to come. This is their dog that becomes an integral piece of our therapeutic process. Hear from our founder, Dr. Adrian Hickmon: Why start Capstone with canine companions?
We receive countless stories from graduates about their Capstone puppy – and love to hear them! Whether a “puppy update” as they integrate at home after Capstone, or a testimonial about a fourteen year old family companion who has passed away. The impact of these canine companions is undeniable.
There are many stories of relapse prevention because of our canine companions.
“I almost relapsed last night, got triggered really bad and was on the edge of using, but then I looked at Mud. We got in the truck, drove to the lake, and I threw his bumper dozens of times and he swam out and retrieved every single one. My trigger level went down, and I didn’t relapse.”

“Capstone was amazing, I went over 12 years ago and still have my dog. I’m married and have a beautiful family and I have tools that I use today to stay sober that I learned at Capstone.”

“Bo (Canine companion) died today, I can’t even talk about it yet, but I want you all to know he was the most important part of the journey.”

“My son just graduated high school, he is a different kid than he was before Capstone. His puppy has been a huge part of his success. You all have made the right, though super tough, decision in trusting Capstone with your treasured boys.”
